Birthright programs
The aim of the Birthright programs is to strengthen the homeland orientation and national identity of those living in the diaspora. The Birthright programs are implemented with the support of travel to the kin-state, and in most cases they also contain educational, touristic and other elements. Through this support young people living in the diaspora have the opportunity to get to know the attractions, culture, history, language and, where appropriate, also the main religion of their kin-state. Classic examples of the Birthright programs at the international level are Birthright Israel, which has been operating since 1999, and Birthright Armenia, which was established in 2003. In the Hungarian context, on the one hand, there are Birthright programs launched from the diaspora, such as the ReConnect Hungary, established in 2012 by the New York-based Hungarian Human Rights Foundation; on the other hand, there are Birthright programs initiated by the kin-state, such as the Diaspora Program operated by the Rákóczi Association in Hungary.
