Emigrant
An emigrant is a person who moves from his place of residence to another settlement (internal migration) or to another country (international migration) with the intention of settling or staying for a long time. Regarding statistics on emigration, the data of the sending countries usually show lower values than the immigration and labor data of the receiving countries, i.e. mirror statistics. The reason for this is that only those who have officially announced their leaving appear in the domestic emigration statistics. In Hungary, the source of domestic data on emigration as well as return migration is the National Institute of Health Insurance Fund Management(Hungarian acronym: NEAK), which handles the temporary invalidation of social security number (TAJ). In Hungary, joining the European Union was not followed by a boom in emigration to the same extent as in most of the neighboring countries. Only the Czech Republic and Slovenia experienced lower levels of exodus. Emigration started to revive only in the second part of the 2000s, especially after the outbreak of the economic crisis started in 2008. This process accelerated after 2010. According to domestic statistics, the number of Hungarian citizens who moved abroad for at least one year exceeded 30,000 by 2015. However, mirror statistics show much higher values. Between 2013 and 2015, more than 85 thousands Hungarian migrants were registered annually just in the European destination countries.
