Hungarian Human Rights Foundation
The Hungarian Human Rights Foundation was established in 1976 in the United States of America. Initially it was called Committee for Human Rights in Romania. Its main purpose is to protect the human rights of minority Hungarian citizens in Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, Serbia, Slovenia and Croatia. The Foundation operates from its New York headquarters, but also maintains offices in Budapest and Cluj-Napoca. The scope of activities of the Hungarian Human Rights Foundation includes: documenting and reporting on the human rights conditions of the Hungarian minority communities; providing in-depth analyses for decision makers and expert testimony before the United States and international forums, including various committees of the United States Senate, the House of Representatives, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. The Hungarian Human Rights Foundation also aims to facilitate the relationship of the Hungarian diaspora living in the United States with Hungary and the Hungarian minority communities living in the Carpathian Basin. In order to achieve this aim it created its own birthright programs under the names ReConnect Hungary and Reconnect Transylvania.
