Immigrant

An immigrant is a person who comes from his place of residence to another settlement (internal migration) or to another country (international migration) with the intention of settling or staying for a long time. If the immigrant does not have the citizenship of the receiving country, he or she must apply for a residence or settlement permit. After that, he or she will appear in the statistical data as an Immigrant foreign citizen. Regarding the legal regulation of migration, it can generally be said that the content and form of migration is determined by the competent national and international organizations. It must be emphasized that migration is not fully and comprehensively regulated although this phenomenon affects almost all states to a greater or lesser extent. The regulation that has been implemented so far with the claim of universality is rather incomplete. At universal level, the first comprehensive document is the UN General Assembly Resolution Declaration (1985) on the human rights of individuals who are not nationals of the country in which they live. However, this document is only a resolution, therefore is not legally binding. It contains only recommendations to the Member States.
