Western European Association of Hungarian Country Organizations
The Western European Association of Hungarian Country Organizations is the first continental umbrella organization of the Hungarian diaspora. It was founded in November 2001 at the Meeting of European Hungarian Country Organizations in Stockholm, with the presence of the leaders of Hungarian organizations from Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Norway and Sweden. According to its statutes adopted at this founding general meeting the Association was registered in Sweden with Stockholm as its seat. The main goals of the Western European Association of Hungarian Country Organizations include: promoting cooperation among Hungarian diaspora organizations in Europe in order to successfully preserve the Hungarian language and culture; and ensuring the representation of the member organizations at the bodies and institutions of Hungary and the European Union.
