The other two types are the policy of extending rights to the diaspora and the policy of extracting obligations from the diaspora. Focusing on ~, this can be further divided into two subtypes. On the one hand, symbolic nation-building policies aim to create a cohesive national identity for those living in the diaspora and enhance their sense of belonging to the kin-state. On the other hand, institution-building policies refer to the creation of institutional frameworks that make diaspora organizations more governable by the kin-state.
